The Ohio State University supports a culture of learning. Individuals are encouraged to seek opportunities and partner with their managers to assess development needs, set goals and create development plans. On-the-job experiences and exposure to different people and learning opportunities should be considered as a part of each plan. Growth and development efforts are most effective with ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the individual and the manager.
A career is intended to be an accumulation of challenging experiences over the course of many years – with each experience contributing to the growth of the individual and the university. A career is a long term journey – not a sprint.
Everyday we are faced with emails, text messages, billboards, television, radio, Twitter, Facebook and blogs. Thousands of words are coming at us from everywhere! At the same time we have messages we want to send to others. Experts say most people speak about sixteen thousand words a day. So how can we make the words count and really communicate with others?

The Staff Career Development Grant and Staff Manager Development Grant are one way the university supports continuous growth in insight, experience, knowledge and skills. Grants can be used for education and training costs related to job and/or career goals, such as registration fees, travel costs or training materials.
